The Painters of Velvet

No one has ever met a velvet painter. We’ve all seen the vibrant colors and felt the desire to reach out and touch a velvet painting. When you encounter one in a thrift shop or an art gallery it’s an irresistible urge to try to know it a bit better than you can with your eyes alone. But where do they come from? It’s been claimed that there was a velvet painter living among the Tahitian islands long ago, the first of his kind. No one ever saw him paint though and he didn’t appear to have a studio. The locals claimed he would often disappear into the jungle, only to return with mysterious packages that were sometimes sent off the island. It was once told that there lived among the island jungles a strange group of beings with sunken eyes and strange terrifying wood like faces. Rumor tells they were know as the Idol Makers for the idolic images they would put into people conscious minds. It was suspected they would plunder velvet from the island funeral parlors as a means to capture the magic enchantments that lived within their surroundings. Velvet has long been know as catalyst to otherworldly paradises so it would be a vital component in the Idol Makers painting rituals. The images were passed around to instill a huge drink of cosmic bliss thereby forever keeping the serenity. Eventually people stopped seeing the Idol Makers and the paintings stopped appearing. However, the mystery was far from over.

To the North East of the mysterious islands among the hot desert plains again appeared the mystical velvet art only this time they invoked the images angles, devils and gods of man. Again the sightings of a strange group of beings coincided with the appearance of the lost art. Though there practices seemed similar in nature this group of beings was altered from their island kin. Though eyes still sunken their faces bore the marking of Luchador masks fantastic yet frighting. Perhaps the changes in their velvet art ritual was the cause for this change of appearance and purpose. Known to the locals as the Velvetadors these beings worked their conjurations at a fierce pace using their mystique to empower and inspire to greatness all those who looked upon their velvet images. American Tourists taking interest in the odd Velvet works spread them through out the society thus Creating a time of prosperity and prolific superstars. Yet No one who returned from a trip with a painting could ever remember meeting an artist. It was always acquired from a tourist trap or a street vendor. Just like before no one seemed to have any idea of the true tale. After awhile the power of the velvet images were taken for granted, again forgotten and faded into a past memory.

Like time its self this enigma doesn’t every really seem to die but transforms. Perhaps the true purpose behind the beings and their velvet art is to return whatever Mojo that becomes lost among the dark hours of the soul. Already among these past 2 decades there have been sightings and rumors. Beings with sunken eyes and skull like faces stealing the crushed velvet upholstery from closed down furniture stores, Others have claimed that Velvet curtains will disappear from the windows of any hotel or business that dares to hang them. Perhaps the rituals have started again? While It is true there is a new style of velvet painting that seems to have surfaced that is placed on more then just the black or red coffin velvet its abilities to predict the future are still that of speculation. Though it has been commented on from multiple sources.
