There are plenty of reasons why parents are deciding to home school besides the once common religious reasons. One is perhaps social reasoning. Professionals who once criticized parents for home schooling their children are beginning to change their views, finally realizing what people in rural areas knew for years. That not all social interaction is positive. The physical schools are becoming increasingly violent, along with increased drug usage, and gang activity. Home schooling with satellite broadband internet allows schools to turn into interactive virtual classrooms where children are still able to interact with teachers, students, and parents. The home–school setting draws the child’s attention from negative social behaviors like alcohol, drugs, and risky sexual behavior. Chances of the child encountering violence in the home–school setting are nonexistent.
The government and state send out standardized tests that home schooled children are still required to take. Many “traditional” schools set days aside for these tests each year. Before administering the tests at home, check with your local school board to make sure that your child isn’t required sit in a school classroom first. In some areas, there are days set aside for local home schooled children to take the tests together. Use the information available through your local school board to plan your approach to yearly standardized tests.
Many parents are wary of home schooling because they feel that their children will not get enough social contact with their peers. The truth is, with so many people opting to home school their children, there is a great network accessible for you to interact with other home school families. Feel that you aren’t smart enough to teach math or science? There are home school mom and dads who will trade off teaching certain subjects if you teach your children and theirs’ the subjects you are best at. There are many resources available to parents who desire to home school; never feel that you are alone in this endeavor. You just have to put in the time and the spunk to take on the tremendous responsibilities of delivering your child from the present and into the future. But what is more vital in your life than helping your child become the best they can be?. Many parents in consider home schooling for their children over normal school classes. And, they are contrary to opinions where professionals once believe that you should not home school your children. As a matter of fact, many schools in urban cities are finding it cheaper to close schools and turn them into free public home school programs.
